"I chose to delve into close-up portraits because I am passionate about expressing the depth of the feelings through facial expressions where the most complexity of emotions are expressed." - Hom Nguyen
He chose this topic because of his composing style and his complicated inner life. Both of them were most affected during his childhood when he lived with his mother. Hom Nguyen's mother (Ms. Lan) immigrated to France in the 70s. Although far from her hometown, Ms. Lan always remembered that land and she shared this nostalgia with Hom. All of the remembrances nourished her longing for returning to Hanoi and telling Hom about the memories, the scents, the landscapes, the faces, etc. Therefore, it is no coincidence that the faces of his paintings evoke Asian elegance.
