S&S Art Gallery is honored to be the first and only place in Vietnam to display the works of world famous contemporary artist Hom Nguyen. The Woman collection, composed by Hom Nguyen for Vietnamese art lovers, will be framed in the near future.
Hom Nguyen, born in 1972 in Paris, is a self-taught artist with a very instinctive art style. Recognized for his ability to convey multiple meanings through portraits, Hom Nguyen is the father of a technique whose movement of lines is as energetic and free as street art. Hom Nguyen's artistic approach is unique in that his works are at the crossroads of figurative and abstract styles, and are invited to go deep into the soul of each person, thereby reviving the dream. hopes to express what is most hidden inside people through lines and colors. Specifically, repeated strokes create dark, light, thin, and thick patches that create details for parts of the face, combining flexible color play, highlighting the emotions of each person. character. Hom Nguyen uses a variety of materials from charcoal, gouache, oil paints, pencils, acrylics, and even ballpoint pens, all to one purpose: to convey the deepest aspects of human existence.
Starting as an anonymous shoe shine boy on the streets of Paris, having only entered the official painting world since 2009, Hom Nguyen has the honor to place his works at the Grand Palais, the art world in Paris. French President Francois Hollande, when he came to appreciate the paintings, did not regret giving him compliments. Not only that, since 2013, Hom's works have been displayed in many solo exhibitions held in many parts of the world from France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, and have been published by various magazines and organizations. Leading companies such as Vogue, UN, and McLaren invite cooperation.
Being in a good position in the international market, busy with many top projects, world famous artist Hom Nguyen has not forgotten his roots. Through a special invitation from their close friend, graffiti artist Cyril Kongo, both artists decided to carry out a special project in Vietnam, not simply bringing international-class works to display in their hometown. incense, but more than that, each person has their own message. Both artists aspire to be a part of the Vietnamese cultural flow and encourage artists in their homeland to boldly put Vietnamese art on the international map. “I am a person who is very sensitive to everything related to the Vietnamese community. “Whenever I have the opportunity, I want to help the community in my way.” - Hom Nguyen.
Talking about his plans and expectations when bringing his art back to his hometown with Cyril Kongo, Hom Nguyen shared: “I was born in France, and I have never had the opportunity to live in Asia. Thanks to my mother's upbringing, I have a dual culture, between France and Asia. That's why Asians are everywhere in my works. Over the years, I've traveled extensively in Asia, each trip serving as a starting point for me to discover my roots. I feel very honored and happy to be able to exhibit my work in Vietnam. As someone who has observed the dual culture of the West and the East, I feel it is my duty to do everything to develop a broader multicultural background as a bridge between France and the Southeast. ASIAN"
It is easy to see that women and children are two topics that Hom Nguyen composed a lot, although not limited to that. The collection “Woman” was specially created by Hom Nguyen for Vietnamese art lovers as a tribute to the homeland of a beloved mother. The reason he chose this topic was because his composing style as well as his complicated inner life were most affected during his childhood when he lived with his mother.
Hom Nguyen's mother, Lan, who immigrated to France in the 1970s, became completely paralyzed after an accident when he was only four years old. This made his life as an immigrant very difficult. Although far from her hometown, Ms. Lan always remembers that land and she shared this pain with Hom. She longed to return to Hanoi and tell Hom about the memories, the scents, the landscapes, the faces. “I am sensitive to the subject of childhood because of my personal life experiences. It passed, but it still left a deep wound in me. To answer the question of why I do so many portraits of women, it could be the transformation of the breath of unconditional love between my mother and me for each other, helping me to overcome the storm. of those days.”
The Asian delicate beauty of his mother was a big inspiration for Hom Nguyen in the Woman series. The women in Woman's works are reminiscent of memories, a missing part of Hom Nguyen's memory, which are faces sketched in his imagination. Woman is the voice of existence, origin, ... the values that her mother has passed on. The face of an Asian woman with bright eyes, looking straight ahead, creates many emotions for the person opposite the portrait. The streaks of color that form the coat are both highlights and colors, so it is to honor a face with only two main colors, black and white. Each face carries a different emotion, creating a very personal message for the person opposite each portrait. Is it sad? Or is it fun? Is it the concealment of pain? Or the peace in those watching eyes? Those who enjoy the portrait will have their own answers.
Despite having achieved certain fame in the world market, artist Hom Nguyen has not forgotten his roots. His works brought back to Vietnam are not only the display and promotion of his reputation in Vietnam, but also a humane gesture, bringing the artist's mind to the young generation in the countryside. home, inspire artistic dreams that are still forming or unfinished, try to follow your passion to the end. One day not far, maybe a class of young Vietnamese artists will bring their works to the international level. Let's hope for those good things.
S&S Art is proud to present Hom Nguyen's works in the S&S Art Gallery space in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. This place is a convergence of artistic quintessence in general and contemporary school in particular, from all over the world, with the desire to act as a bridge between the beautiful things that art brings. may be closer to the public.
